Political corruption is the abuse of entrusted
power by political leaders for private gain,
with the objective of increasing their power
or wealth. It therefore tends to move consonantly
with corruption in tax sector. Good examples
of corruption in the tax sector are the findings
highlighted by Lady Justice Sebutinde in the
Uganda Revenue Commission Report. N-TAPO has
always been calling on the government to implement
the report’s recommendations wholesomely.
Political
corruption need not involve money-changing hands;
it may take the form of “trading in influence”
or granting favors that poison politics and
threaten democracy.
Millions
of shillings of taxpayers' money has been lost
in procurement of junk equipment, under-size
uniforms and expired food rations and the persons
responsible have been left to go scot-free.
N-TAPO continuously calls upon the Government
to bring to justice those who are responsible
for such loses.
